cried Cadmus,
tears streaming
from his eyes.
"He is nothing but a wretched bull,
the one Europa
fled with across the sea!
She seized his horns,
his flanks shook with fear,
and he bellowed, despairing, yielding,
and she twisted his neck
and he fell dead
like a rat worn out by the plague."

Agenor trembled
and writhed in fury,
seized by a great disappointment,
then cried out in rage:
"Burn them both,
and write in the myths
that it was Zeus."
