About Dramaturgy Academy

Dramaturgy Academy is a space for learning and creating across the dramatic arts: screenwriting, directing, acting, literature and visual art. In one place we bring together courses, articles and studies, literature and poetry, and a living archive of dramatic works.

We believe drama is not a luxury but a way of understanding people and society, and that the craft is learned through study and practice together.

Mamdouh Hamadeh is the founder of the Academy. A Syrian journalist and screenwriter born in 1959 in the Golan Heights, he holds a PhD in Journalism from the University of Minsk.

He is considered "the architect of black comedy" in Arab drama: his work does more than provoke laughter, it dissects social and political reality with a surgeon's precision. He founded the Academy to pass his experience in writing and directing on to a new generation of writers and directors.
